Position Overview:

The Vice President of Medical Affairs of Aesthetics plays a critical role in developing and setting the clinical communication strategy for the organization while collaborating with team members both locally and abroad. This highly capable candidate embodies a can-do, will-do attitude with a drive to succeed.

This position will be an integral part of overall growth plans with the proven ability to execute. This role will be responsible for building out the teams while being supported by an excellent collaborative team of colleagues from around the globe. This role will report to the President.

Position Summary:

This individual will define and implement company-wide Medical Affairs and Clinical Education strategy to ensure 1) Safe and effective use of product portfolio, 2) Strong thought leader relationships for physician messaging via robust podium presence (RMMs) and medical literature (Strategic and Publication Communication Plan, Grants), 3) Sound and thoughtful scientific strategy for Portfolio of Products and 4) Follow all US regulatory & legal requirements for product information dissemination in response to unsolicited requests for medical information (Medical Affairs). Will also include providing medical input and review to support relevant business development, market research, marketing and corporate communication, and sales/marketing promotional material/activities.

Scientific Expertise and Strategy:

  • Optimize understanding of portfolio through scientific data and communication and provide input into strategies and positioning via science with the commercial team and cross-functional colleagues.
  • Serve as central hub of clinical and scientific expertise across business units for development of tools to be used in promotional activities by field sales personnel, training of relevant parties, and development of brand strategies.
  • Provide leadership building internal relationships across the business - Forge strong links between Medical Affairs and Sales, Marketing, R&D, Regulatory and Manufacturing. Ensure Medical Affairs is well integrated across organization while establishing a solid interface with legal and compliance to ensure compliance of Medical Affairs activities with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure alignment and continued collaboration with Global Medical Affairs partners in their respective corporate headquarters.
  • Working in collaboration with Commercial leadership and Research & Development, implement a tactical and aggressive medical communications plan ensuring proactive messaging via poster presentations at scientific congresses, podium presentations, peer-reviewed publications and materials to be used by field-based personnel to scientifically differentiate product portfolio.

Medical Affairs Teams, Systems and Procedures:

  • Leverage key members of Medical Affairs teams and establish appropriate policies & procedures, systems, metrics and infrastructure to support all Medical Affairs operations
  • Responsibility for management and development of an independently functioning team that is to be determined but likely Medical Director Adverse Event consultants and internal Medical Affairs staff.
  • Provide direction and leadership for a potential team of Aesthetics Regional Medical Managers (MSLs), including strategy for field activities, thought leader engagement and relationship development and product scientific messaging
  • Develop and implement strategy for increasing relationship strength between company and identified physician thought leaders through in-field one on one visits, executive one on one meetings at scientific congresses, advisory boards, regional consultant’s meetings, etc.
  • Administer and collaborate with Partners the unrestricted educational grant and investigator- initiated clinical study grants program
  • Develop and implement a solid medical information systems and content for dissemination of clinically- and scientifically- relevant information to physicians in response to unsolicited inquiries. Understand and anticipate potential topics of inquiry and prepare scripts and documents to address topics.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8-10 years progressive Medical Affairs industry experience required.
  • Proven track record of success, especially in the area of establishing and leading diverse teams, establishing relationships with opinion leaders and academic institutions, driving publication plans, etc.
  • Graduate degree (PhD, PharmD, MD) in relevant scientific area of expertise/biological sciences/pharmacy is required.
  • Strong management and people skills, able to effectively manage multiple individual in central office and field-based employees and large scale projects across multiple brand categories.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines, strong problem-solving and prioritizing skills.
  • Requires working knowledge of the medical device/pharmaceutical regulatory and compliance environment.
  • Ability to influence and gain consensus without authority.
  • Highly collaborative spirit with business partners to successfully drive the company’s strategy.
  • Strong presentation skills.
